Protective Behaviours
Protective Behaviours
As part of our work in school to keep children safe, we teach Protective Behaviours. This programme uses two themes as a framework for personal safety:
- We all have the right to feel safe all the time
- We can all talk with someone about anything, even if it feels awful or small
Within each theme, we look at how we can keep ourselves safe and the responsibility we have to behave in a way that keeps others safe too. We look at the ‘early warning signs’ our bodies give us when we start to feel unsafe and consider what we might do to feel safe again. Central to this is the use of our ‘personal network’ which is where we choose the people in our lives that we might call on to help us if we feel unsafe.
